Projekt Nr. 02

Pre-concentration and separation technologies for high-throughput analysis in proteomics, metabolomics and system biology

Institute of Analytical Chemistry and Radiochemistry
Leopold-Franzens Universität Innsbruck

Owing to the complexity of samples as given by blood, sera, plasma, interstitial fluid, urine, exudates, whole cells, cell lysates, and cellular secretion products a combination of several analytical methodologies had and still has to be worked out for simplification and robustness, high sample throughput (automatization), enhancing speed, sensitivity and increasing the specificity of the analytical challenge.

Therefore, in order to improve pre-concentration, separation and selectivity of analytical separation procedures prior to mass spectrometric analysis, the development of new materials as stationary phases is permanently required.

State of the art

The group of O.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Günther Bonn at the Institute of Analytical Chemistry and Radiochemistry, Leopold-Franzens University, Innsbruck, has a long-lasting experience in the field of proteomics and metabolomics. One of the main research areas is the development of new stationary phases and infrared spectroscopic methods.

Goal

Focus os the development of novel materials eg selective stationary  phases for different biological applications within this platform. Emphasis is put on sample pre-concentration, fractionation and separation for high-throughput analysis next to the production of selective supports for material enhanced laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (MELDI-MS).

Solution

Novel stationary phases for pre-concentration, separation, MELDI-TOF/MS (Material enhanced laser desorption ionisation-time of flight/mass spectrometry).
